Budgeting: What is a budget ?

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Does the word “BUDGET” bring happy thoughts to your mind? Does it bring restrictive and negative thoughts?

When we talk about a budget, it is much more than a monthly estimate of expenses like your mortgage, electricity, rates or credit card payments.

Basically, it is a one-year financial plan for you and your family that outlines all your spending, whether it is monthly or non monthly.

A bad news event that has a good news twist !!

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

The bad news part of this story is that it only applies to you if you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. The good news twist is that Superannuation members with a terminal illness will now be able to draw super tax free. It will be important to check if the Trustee of your superannuation fund has been able to implement these announcements and work through some of the other fine details which need to be considered.

Life is a journey : Humpty Dumpty gets the ‘All Clear’

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Here I sit at the end of another week wondering where I have been and what have I accomplished. If I look at the “To Do” list I wrote down this time last Friday, I haven’t achieved a lot from that list. Nonetheless, I am more than happy with what else was achieved within the week. Let me tell you why …. it begins ….

Hospital photoHumpty Dumpty climbed a tree, Humpty Dumpty slipped … and his parents went oooohhh Gee.
All the scans and checks were done, now once again Humpty and his parents have fun.

If you are wondering what I am going on about, my son fell out of a tree last Sunday from about 2-3 metres high and landed on his head on a concrete path. Ambulance rushed him to hospital where we were looked after quite well (apart from an x-ray being taken of the wrong foot). It seemed like I wasn’t really in the room when I saw my brave little man.

The week that followed has been a bit of a blur. My apologies to some clients who haven’t received a response in the normal timeframes I like to deliver.

HappyHe’s come out of it with a shining multi-coloured eye and a cast on his foot that is meant to be slowing him down. He’s back at it and up to more mischief as boys are meant to be.

Phew …my (& my sons) personal experience with this traumatic event could have been much, much worse.

After a few weeks in a row where I have let myself work longer hours than normal (because at the time I thought it was important); it has been a good wake up to stop, regain some balance and ensure my own priorities are in order with the things I place a great deal of value on.
